Step 5: Find a lender and an agent
After getting an idea of what you can afford to spend on a home, your rights as a homebuyer, and whether you might qualify for down payment assistance, you’re ready to find a real estate agent and mortgage lender.
A real estate agent can help you find a home that suits your needs and budget, and they can help you throughout the homebuying process. Real estate agents are also good sources of information about particular neighborhoods and schools.
And, if you’re going to use a mortgage to buy a home, now’s the time to find a mortgage lender. When selecting a lender, one thing to keep in mind is that not all lenders will loan to people who use down payment assistance programs. So, it’s vital to verify upfront if a lender will work with you if you plan on using down payment assistance to buy your home.
